The fence looks awesome, keeps out those rotten bunnies and the dogs in, and I can lock both gates for added security. They were prompt, very easy to work with, very quick and professional with the communication. Bill is the best!

Dog & Pet Fencing FAQs

What kind of fence is best for dogs?

It depends on your dog and your goals. Chain link is affordable, durable, and easy to reinforce for diggers. Wood or vinyl privacy fences add containment plus visual privacy that reduces barking triggers. Ornamental iron looks beautiful and can be built with tight picket spacing for small dogs. During your consultation we ask about your dogโ€™s breed, size, and habits, then recommend the right fit.

How tall does my dog's fence need to be?

As a general rule: 4 ft for small dogs, 5 ft for medium breeds, and 6 ft for large or high-energy breeds. Serious jumpers, herding breeds, and escape artists may need 6 ft or taller with additional deterrents. We will recommend a height that matches your specific dog.

What if my dog digs?

We have several dig-prevention options. The most common are a concrete footing at the base of the fence line, or a buried mesh apron that extends 12โ€“18 inches underground. Both stop digging without changing the look of the fence above ground. We recommend one during your estimate based on your dog and your soil.

Can you install a dedicated dog run or kennel?

Yes. We build custom outdoor dog runs and kennels in a range of sizes and materials, either freestanding or attached to your main yard fence. Options include chain link runs, ornamental iron pens, wood-and-mesh combinations, and covered kennels for weather protection.

Do you install invisible fences?

No. Struck & Irwin installs physical fences only. In our experience, physical barriers are more reliable, do not depend on batteries or collars, work for dogs of every temperament, and protect your yard from other animals coming in, not just yours going out.

What about small dogs, cats, or rabbits?

We offer tight-spaced picket options, fine mesh, cat-topper systems that curve inward, and rabbit-safe ground-line reinforcement. Small pets need special attention to spacing and ground clearance, and we will design accordingly during your consultation.
